The first general meeting for the spring term is scheduled on Tuesday, January 20th 4-5 pm in the Administration Building, second floor conference room (246). Following our meeting, we will host our second speaker in our education lecture series, 2nd year veterinary student Paul McCurdy attending Massey University in New Zealand. Paul will present a powerpoint with pictures and information on Massey University and what it's like to attend a vet school outside the US. After his presentation, Paul will take questions from the audience. Bring your questions and your appetite as this will be a catered event. New Workshop hosted by MARVET and St Matthew's Veterinary College

MARVET (Marine Veterinary Medicine) is an educational program offering introductory courses in marine animal medicine for veterinary students and veterinarians who would like to become more acquainted with the expanding field of marine animal health and conservation medicine. Information is approached in a workshop format combining traditional classroom presentations with practical hands-on applications and site visits to marine animal facilities. Selected workshops now invite participation from biologists and ADVANCED BIOLOGY STUDENTS interested in ecosystem health and the interdisciplinary team approach to ecological health problem-solving.

The next workshop is "MARVET Caymans 2009" based at St. Matthew's University. You must fill-out an application which is first come first serve and there are only 16 spots available! The workshop is scheduled for July 20-July 29, 2009 at a cost of $1500.00. A $700.00 deposit is due Jan 15th with the remaining balance of $800.00 due by May 15, 2009. APVMA Scholarships Available

So, we finally sent-off our membership dues to the American Pre-Veterinary Medical Association and recieved word back that we are now officially a part of their organization. This is a wonderful opportunity for everyone as it gives members access to internships, scholarships, awards and eligibility for election to the Executive Board for the APVMA. I have posted copies of the forms for the scholarships and awards on the COSO website. These awards are on a national level which is a wonderful way to gain serious recognition for your work and the selection process is rigorous. Awards are selected based on a variety of criteria and are awarded at National Symposium during one of their business casual dinners. The following people are eligible to fill these forms out:

Almost Done!

So, we've almost reached the finish line for Fall 2008. As we all scramble to prepare for finals just remember one thing, all the hard work pays off! Before the end of the term, don't forget to turn in your volunteer hours. For those of you who logged service hours, you should have received an e-mail from Christie Gonzalez outlining your hours earned and the dates and events at which you earned them. If you did not receive a notice, please contact Christie at CGonza48@fau.edu.

Also, don't forget that we have two volunteer events in December during the winter break. On December 14th, we will be hosting pet pictures with Santa at Fur Crazy Pet Salon. See previous blogs for more details. We will also be hosting Canine Christmas Caroling at Mizner Park on December 20th 6-9 pm with a holiday mixer at The Dubliner to follow-up.
